Research Interests
The research led by Prof Girotto lies at the forefront of fundamental Earth system science, advancing our understanding of the global water cycle through the integration of hydrologic models, Earth Observations, and data assimilation. By merging physical theory with cutting-edge satellite observations, Dr. Girotto aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the physical processes controlling water availability and variability across spatial and temporal scales. This research deepens scientific knowledge of land–atmosphere interactions and also strengthens the predictive capacity of hydrologic and climate models, enabling better forecasts of drought, floods, and long-term water resource changes under a changing climate. As a Miller fellow, I propose to conduct basic research on innovative approaches (inSAR) for estimating SWE over mountain domains.
