Facilitating cross-disciplinary learning and dialogue among leading scientists, while fostering a vibrant interdisciplinary scientific community, is central to the Miller Institute’s mission. This commitment is reflected in three signature recurring events:

Weekly Lunch & Talk

The Weekly Luncheon, held every Tuesday, is the Miller Institute’s signature community event designed to foster interdisciplinary exchange and strengthen connections among active Miller members. Through weekly research presentations by Miller fellows and faculty, followed by a shared buffet lunch, the luncheon provides a regular forum for members to learn about one another’s work, engage in scientific dialogue, and build a vibrant, collaborative community.

Annual Symposium

The Miller Symposium is a three-day retreat held in the Santa Cruz Mountains that celebrates intellectual curiosity—the drive to ask new questions, challenge assumptions, and learn from perspectives beyond one's own field. Each year, seven distinguished speakers share their groundbreaking research and engage participants through accessible, thought-provoking presentations that inspire dialogue across disciplines. Combined with informal conversations and community-building activities, the Symposium creates a welcoming environment where scientists forge new connections, broaden their perspectives, and discover ideas that can shape future research.

Fall & Spring Dinners

The Miller Spring and Fall Dinners bring together the Miller community, their families, and guests each semester to foster intellectual exchange, strengthen relationships, and celebrate the Institute's commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry. Featuring distinguished guest speakers whose work and storytelling captivate audiences across scientific disciplines and beyond, these longstanding evenings of conversation not only encourage meaningful dialogue and the exchange of ideas, but also inspire a broader audience to experience the awe, wonder, and excitement of scientific discovery.
