Research Interests
I am Professor of Applied Statistics at the University of Oxford and Visiting Professor of Statistical Epidemiology at Imperial College London School of Public Health. I study the transmission and control of infectious diseases, with an emphasis on real-time outbreak response. I work on diseases of animals as well as humans, which makes zoonotic pathogens particularly interesting as they transmit both within and between human and animal populations. I have broader interests in ecology and conservation, stemming from (but not limited by) my disease-related interests. Finally, I am interested in the science/policy interface, seeking effective ways to produce and communicate policy-relevant scientific evidence.
